"With the trend we are seeing and the reduction of fatalities, it appears that the installation of cable barriers has been one of the most effective, if not the most effective, safety improvements the department has made... What's very encouraging for us is we're seeing that much effect with only 89 miles in place.”

-John Fuller, Chief Engineer, Oklahoma Department of Transportation (August, 2008)

GSI High Tension Cable LP is a distributor for the Nucor NU-CABLE High-Tension Cable Barrier System.

Now you can lower the cost of roadside barriers up to 75%!

An economical way to get heavy-duty protection without the heavy-duty look!

The Nucor three and four cable barrier system offers a unique combination of effective protection, visual appeal and overall economy in both median and guide-rail applications.

  • Capable of deflections of less than 2m, so it's strong.
  • Utilizes strong (up to 100 KSI yield strength) yet economical 4 lb. Rib-Bak® posts, hot-dip galvanized for long life.
  • Clean appearance makes it an attractive alternative to traditional W-beam and concrete barriers.
  • Cost-effective, 50% to 75% less than W-beam or concrete, and up to 20% less than other high-tension cable systems.

The Nucor system utilizes three or four 3 x 7 steel cables tensioned up to 5,600 lbs. (25KN), and attached to U-channel steel posts by unique hook bolts. It is anchored at both ends into FHWA-approved end terminals.

Nucor NU-CABLE High-Tension Cable Barrier System. There's nothing else like it for performance, looks, or savings.

Only Nucor offers these performance advantages:

  • Easy to maintain and repair, so the lower installation costs are augmented by continuing savings.
  • NCHRP 350-approved system that tests superior in deflection tests to a competitive cable system that uses plastic inserts instead of hook bolts.
  • Posts can be driven into soil or installed in sockets set in soil, asphalt or concrete foundations.
  • Cables are stretched and tightened on-site by turnbuckles. Installers can customize deflections to meet site needs.
  • The system is visually appealing and doesn't block driver visibility.
